What does it mean to be a man?
According to the John Wayne era, a man is tough, never shows his emotions, and always leads with his chin. According to the modern, beer commercial driven drunken comedy, era, a man is a stupid animal who is incapable of making any decision of importance and would have become extinct long ago if not for the level heads of women. Now in times of old, men are stereotypically viewed as hard workers outside the home and tyrants inside it. I could keep going but the point is that society and it's influence seem to have a very fluid definition of manhood. Every generation or so manages to reinvent the role.
What does all that mean to me? Well, it would seem that the external view changes too rapidly for a good idea of what a man truly is. So, new question, what is the heart of a man? Or maybe, what is the Essence of a man? I feel myself drawn to the search for the truth of the matter. I want to know what makes a man a man. Not in the anatomical sence but mentally, emotionally, relationally, etc...
This is my quest for the truth...
